Zbigniew Smalko
Professor at Air Force Institute of Technology in Warsaw.
Professor Emeritus of Warsaw University of Technology, Faculty of
Transport.
He is
one of the founders and the Honorary Member of Polish Safety and
Reliability Association, the Member of Scientific Board of the Air
Force Institute of Technology in Warsaw and the Guest Member of
Scientific Board of the Faculty of Transport of Warsaw University of
Technology.
He was
the Secretary of the Section of Exploitation Fundamentals of
Machines and the Member of the Committee of Construction of Machines
of Polish Academy of Sciences, the President of the Section of
Technical Assets and the Member of the Committee of Transport of
Polish Academy of Science, the Member of the Scientific Research
Committee and the Research Committee of Economy Development of the
Minister of Science and Higher Education.
He
received the MSc degree in Engineering from Higher School of
Engineering in Dnepropetrovsk in 1955, the PhD degree in Technical
Sciences in 1969 and the DSc degree in Technical Sciences in 1974
from Warsaw University of Technology and the Professor Title from
the President of the Council of State in 1989.
Professor Smalko is renowned for his work in system reliability and
safety research and is acknowledged as a pioneer in designing and
organizing the Winter School of Reliability annual 41 conference
series and he is currently the Honorary President of its Scientific
Committee. He was the Chairman of 7 International Safety and
Reliability Conferences-KONBiN organized biennial in Poland. He has
published several books and over 300 papers in the field of
reliability and safety and in the exploitation fundamentals of
machines. He was the coordinator of and participated in a number of
research project including the European Union project Safety and
Reliability of Industrial Systems and Products-SAFERELNET. He is
also well-known for promoting university education on the basis of
problem-driven research.
